CHARLEY
CHASE & THELMA TODD |
- HIGH C'S - 1930 Hal Roach comedy starring Charley Chase
and Thelma Todd. Charley has been stationed in France during World War I. He's not as
interested in fighting, however, as he is in singing with his pals, the Ranch Boys. His
commanding officer becomes even more annoyed with him when they both fall in love with the
same French girl, Antoinette (Thelma Todd). Trouble brews when one of the Ranch Boys is
shot in the Adam's apple. This leaves the group without a tenor. When they hear a German
yodeling behind the lines, they kidnap him and add him to the group (this results in a
German version of "Where Has My Little Dog Gone?"). Eventually the Ranch Boys
are transferred, and Charley is unhappy until he hears some singers in a guardhouse. He
gives his commanding officer a swift kick, which lands him in the same jail as the group.
Last we see of Charley, he is singing a love song to Antoinette from behind bars. This
film proved to be so popular, a sequel, Rough Seas, was made the next year. Outstanding quality Mint Blackhawk print from the early 1980's with
original spoken titles. Blackhawk did a much better job having these prints made than how
the labs are doing it now. I bought this from Blackhawk when it was a new release. About

and Thelma Todd. This is the sequel to "Rough C's". On his way home following
World War I, Charley smuggles his French sweetheart (Thelma Todd) aboard ship and gets
into all kinds of trouble. Outstanding
quality Mint Blackhawk print from the early 1980's on thin mylar film stock. I bought this

LAUREL
& HARDY
- THEIR FIRST MISTAKE - 1932
Laurel and Hardy comedy with Mae Busch and Billy Gilbert. Mrs. Hardy is irate that her
husband Oliver spends more time with his friend Stanley than with her. Oliver decides to
adopt a baby, hoping that it will keep his wife occupied so that he and Stanley can
continue to carouse. But upon returning home with the infant, they find a process server
(Billy Gilbert) with a divorce summons, and spend a sleepless night caring for the
squalling baby. He also gives Laurel a summons, stating "You're being sued for the
alienation of Mr. Hardy's affections". Like New 1972 Eastman print in the Blackhawk

- LAUGHING GRAVY - 1932 Laurel and
Hardy comedy with Charlie Hall. Stanley and Oliver try unsuccessfully to keep their pet
dog, "Laughing Gravy" hidden from their grumpy landlord, who throws the pooch
out into the snow. The rescue and further attempts to hide the dog result in mayhem, which
is interrupted by the arrival of a registered letter informing Stanley that he's inherited
a fortune from his rich uncle. Laughing Gravy is a wonderful insight into the world of
this dynamic comedy duet, their antics and slapstick timing, and our joyful laughter at
their own hilarious expense. This is a Like New 1971 Eastman print in the Blackhawk OB,
